I teach a self-contained CDC classroom in a lower income area. One of my problems is parent involvement with the class itself. I struggle getting some parents in for IEP meetings as well as returning paperwork or signing paperwork sent home from the school. I have folders that go home everyday with important information but sometimes communication feels one sided. What are some suggestions for ways to get parents involved in classroom activities?

ClassDojo
Above is a link to ClassDojo, an online web application that can be used by anyone on a computer or mobile device. This program was designed to help reduce negative classroom behavior issues by helping students take ownership of their behavior. It is totally customizable, involves parents, and helps teachers keep track of behavior issues and progress. This is one way to approach the challenge of engaging the parents of your students while implementing a class-wide approach as well.
